John D. Canning is the principal of MediaSHERPA, a full-service media production, distribution and consulting company that delivers sensitive insightful media, increased targeted awareness and drives competitive results. Catering to wide variety of clients, John specializes in crafting stories for cause/nonprofit, environmental and adventure related projects. From celebrity interviews in Hollywood to remote gorilla trekking in Rwanda to dancing with the Huli Wigman of Papua New Guinea, John has tackled diverse subject matters with sensitivity, producing expert digital media for TV, documentaries, websites, and presentations. In addition to crafting the stories, John has provided clients with integrated digital media strategies and targeted network distribution practices to make sure the stories are also seen.

Canning has traveled to some of the most beautiful and remote locations in over 6 continents covering stories, companies and causes in more than 60 countries for media outlets including MSNBC, MSN, Slate, Expedia Radio, Yahoo Studios, Away.com, Around The World Productions, Digital Artists, Green Living Project for such clients as African Wildlife Foundation, World Wildlife Fund, CARE, EarthWatch, Children Mending Hearts, USAID, UNDP and a host of others.

Beyond MediaSHERPA, Canning has directed product experience for WeVideo, ran product efforts for Disney and built interactive experiences for some of NBC’s biggest hits. John also served as senior producer for Yahoo! Studios and Yahoo! News overseeing original productions as well as Director of Content Distribution and Field Producer and photographer for Richard Bangs Adventures.

Before Yahoo!, John was a Technical Evangelist for Microsoft’s eHome Division and Product Manager for the Microsoft TV division. John is a board member of the New Media Council for the Producers Guild of America. TV Academy’s Interactive Media Peer Group and the Adventure Travel Trade Association.
