Welcome to New Adiembra!
This interactive website was designed to allow our audiences an opportunity for deeper exploration into the characters and themes of the documentary Doing Jewish: A Story from Ghana.
The Sefwis are a small group of Jews living in a town called New Adiembra in the region of Sefwi Wiawso, Ghana. Surrounded by the dominate religions of Christianity and Islam, they practice Judaism in isolation, with the exception of the visitors who embark on the nine hour journey from Accra (Ghana’s capital city). The film’s director, Gabrielle Zilkha was one of these visitors some 5 years ago!
Explore the interactive map with tours of key locations led by members of the Jewish community. Watch videos, take in the sights and sounds of the village, meet community members that you might not have seen in Doing Jewish, and share your own photos with the Sefwis!Enjoy!
